OUR APPROACHES

Our Approaches

All Function Lifestyle Day Supports programs use a therapeutic approach to activity participation to improve the participants’ psychological, social or emotional wellbeing. This is carried out by disability support workers with additional training in sensory modulation, expression through art and activity gradation. All activities are entwined with positive affirmations to build self-esteem, confidence and increase quality of life.

The programs are overseen by an Occupational Therapist to provide support and guidance to the disability support workers.

Therapeutic Approaches

Sensory modulation is a valuable therapeutic medium that can alter a person’s emotional state by exposure to different sensations that are calming or altering, depending on each individual’s sensory preferences.

Expression through art utilizes different mediums to explore different sensations to build self confidence, awareness and

communication.

Gradation increases or decreases the difficulty of a task to present the individual with the “just right challenge”. The difficulty is then increased as the individual builds skills and confidence.
